There is no map size limit in XCSoar. The new map generator was partly 
developed by me. At first the map size was not limited (or nearly 
unlimited). Due to problems with the server io load I had to introduce 
limits. It was kind of a quick hack to handle these problems and the 
values. I will make a test for Australia and I will inform you as soon 
as it works.
