General support for acceleration sensors has been in XCSoar for a very
long time, but only the Vega driver has been able to provide it.  The
only change in 6.0.8 is that Android's acceleration sensor can be
used now.

It is used for:

- the InfoBox
- above 1.25g, climb rates are not recorded
- above 1.3g, the wind zig-zag algorithm is temporarily disabled
- it is involved in speed-to-fly calculations

Just read that from the source code, this is a part of our code which
I am not familiar with.
