I've asked the guy who maintains the UK_AIR OpenAir files on the Soaring Server why class G is used. His only answer was that 'AIP say so', so evidently their reasoning isn't about to be explained to mere pilots. Note that this assignment is only used for MATZ (the airspace round military airfields), not for Danger and Restricted airspace. As a MATZ can be regarded as an extended outer layer to an ATZ and an ATZ adopts the class of airspace surrounding it, in fact all MATZ and ATZ in class G airspace should also be class G - and indeed many of them are. Those are the UK rules for ATZs as quoted in the BGA's Rules & Laws. > Once again I would suggest contacting the provider of that AIP and tell > him to use the right airspace classes in the open air file... > I've contacted the author of SPINE, since I don't know whether AIP said NOTAMS should be be class E or whether it was a decision by the 3rd party provider of SPINE. There is nothing in the Rules and Laws about what airspace class should be used for plotted NOTAMs. I'll let you know what I find out.
