Hi,

I was thinking about a UI where I would need NO set up of AAT target during
the flight. I think XCSoar could visualize ranges instead of optimized
points and make the whole target point dragging unecessary. Let me explain
on one of the situations you wan't to avoid while flying AAT task.

Finnishing too early

When flying in a AAT area (turnpoint) I frequently find myself doing this
analysis: the weather here is quite bad but can I turn now, provided I want
to use remaining areas to their maximum? Did I already reach this tipping
point? To find out, using current UI, I have to move all of the remainging
AAT targets to +100% and see what happens to the automatically optimized
target in current area. If I'm past the point, I'm safe to turn now. But if
I didn't reach it yeat, I HAVE to struggle with the weather and try to
achieve a couple of more kilometers here. I'm in what I would call a dead
region of the area. No competitor wants to turn in this region and head
towards the next turnpoint, inevitably finishing too soon. This dead region
should be visualized differently (completely transparent) than the rest of
the area.

I think this proposal is not controversial and would hope that it's also not
difficult to implement. And it would allow me not to touch AAT targets
settings in 80% of my flights and I would be finnishing right on time every
time I correctly set-up the MC value :-). What do you think?

Tibor

P.S.: Of course, on the far side of the current area there is the other dead
region. The one that doesn't allow you to finnish on time even if you only
TOUCH all of the remaining areas.
