The purpose of this email is to explain the dependencies between
XCSoar and the IOIO Board firmware versions. This email affects only
XCSoar users who are connected to devices using an IOIO Board.

We recently discovered a bug in the IOIO Board's Firmware that
prevents backwards compatibility of newer and older IOIO
boards. Fortunately, there is a quick solution to the
problem. However, IOIO users of XCSoar will need to download and run
an app from the Android Market called "IOIO Manager" that will set
the correct Firmware ID on their IOIO boards.

1) XCSoar 6.2.x works only with IOIO Boards running Firmware ID
IOIO0100. So if XCSoar does not connect to your IOIO board today,
the solution may be that you need to set the IOIO's Firmware ID to
IOIO0100 using the IOIO Manager app.

2) XCSoar 6.3 (planned for release in December 2011 or early 2012)
will work only with IOIO Boards running Firmware ID IOIO0300. So, if
your IOIO Board works with XCSoar 6.2.x today, it will fail when you
upgrade XCSoar to XCSoar 6.3 unless you set the IOIO's Firmware ID to
IOIO0300 using the IOIO Manager app at the same time.

I have created a post on the forum with more information about this
issue for those who are interested or affected:
