Correct.
The name AutoMC may suggest a different feature than the one associated in
xcs vs other soaring computers. Having the s/w automatically set the MC to
the expected climb rate in the next thermal based on some heuristic such as
a weighted average of the last few thermals. I think this is what Morgan
was expecting.
The feature actually implemented in xcs is more like a "MaximumMC": the
maximum MC that will get you to the destination right at the safety
altitude, calculated instantaneously. I seem to recall this number is
capped (so possibly why you have seen the 19.2 more than once).
It is a nice feature but note that currently this AutoMC does not take
terrain into account, so I don't use it. On final glide I just close the
loop manually, put down the nose until diff alt is zero and track that down
all the way keeping a close eye on the terrain X and backing off if it
appears. It would be so much better to have actual margin over terrain on
glidepath to get better confidence on final glides but it is not
implemented yet, there is an enhancement ticket for that.
