That isn't entirely true. The copy got removed from our web site, but still
exists on the wikia site.
http://xcsoar.wikia.com/wiki/Advanced:Input
The problem with the copies there is that no one has been editing them. The
principles are quite often still the same (file formats etc) but a lot of the
event names have changed.
It has been my hope that someone would take the content there and start the
advanced manual. I have not had the time to take it on completely but would be
able to help if someone could.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
I'd like to...
a. prevent to map from centering on the glider when thermalling mode is
entered, would much prefer it to remain at my cruise 10%-from-bottom-setting,
so its nice & steady/stable and not 'flicking around' on me
b. turn off most notification messages and all notification sounds (eg: message
& sound telling me I've just taken off)
I gather I need to...
1. use a text editor to create a file called "AnyUsefulName.xci"
2. put it into the "XCSoarData" directory in my Dell Streak 5
3. write some lines of code in it (to overwrite the things I want)
4. for example...
mode=default
type=gce
data=FLIGHTMODE_CLIMB
event=don't centre the map on the glider, leave it at 10% from bottom edge!!!
mode=default
type=gce
data=???
event=don't play sounds & don't tell me I've just taken off!!
Regards,
Paul
PS: also can't work out why I don't get green circles appear around my purple
dots on the map? Perhaps because I don't have a topographic map loaded? But
when I look at my 'Alternates' list, there are green circles around the
reachables in the list?

The advanced user manual used to exist on the Wiki before it was deleted.
(still lost to why we deleted an entire set of docs because some were out of
date).
You can still find it on other sites e.g.
http://xcsoar.wikia.com/wiki/Advanced:Input
Be warned though that it is of course out of date. The principles work
(explaining RPN etc) but not the actual commands which have not been kept up to
date. We should probably get it back in our Trac wiki so it can be community
edited. Anyone can cut / paste and start updating
it.
Once started, it is easy then to open up the code and lookup the real set of
events, and input buttons.

Hi Paul,
unfortunatly that manual never really existed anywhere. :(
I don't know why it was ever linked somewhere but nobody took the time
to actually write it as far as I know.
What exactly would you like to turn off?

I'd like to ese the XCsoar on my smartfone for paragliding flight, so the
problem is the low battery capacity.
The permanent display and the GPS needs too much energy.
Is there any usable idea for life extension?
Thanks

You could try to activate the "plane mode" of your phone while flying.
That will deactivate the mobile phone connection and should save a bit
of battery. The other idea would be to have an external USB battery
powering your phone when it runs out of power.

Dear Sir or Madam,
we hereby present you: XCSoar 6.4? well? actually just the second
alpha version, sorry! ;)
We have however added a few small new features that you can test now.
Several people have been complaining that a simple ?GoTo? takes too
many clicks since the ?Map Items? list was introduced. We have added a
?GoTo? button directly in this list dialog now and hope that this will
simplify things for you.
>This is a great improvement but why again it is not directly accessible and
>the waypoint is marked in the list. One has to mark it by hand begore the goto
>button works. Why dont you highlight the waypoint by default. When something
>else is to select this can then be done manually. Otherwise there is only one
>click necessary for the goto funktion paraendurist
We have also improved the LX V7/Nano support again. This release of
XCSoar will be able to work with the upcoming firmware update (2.01)
for the LX V7, which makes it much easier to detect and configure the
device that is providing the V7 with GPS information (e.g. the LX
Nano).
We had slightly changed the audio vario sound parameters for the last
release and some pilots had mixed feelings about that. This new
version will let you configure them yourself through the usual
configuration dialog.
There is one important change now for all users that have gotten used
to the final glide infobox mode: We have made this mode optional and
the default is now to disable it. That means that if you want a
special set of infoboxes for the final glide you will have to activate
that option explicitly after installing this release!
Aside from these new things a few bugs have been fixed. There was for
example a problem in the first alpha version with waypoint files that
included umlauts and other special characters. This should be fixed
now!

The next maintenance release will be 6.3.9, to be released on demand.
The next major release will be 6.4, going beta soon.
