Addition to the suggestion below. Glider pilots in Australia are
increasingly having to converse with Regular Public Transport aircraft in
terms that RPT's understand. Several smaller airlines that operate in G
airspace in Australia are challenging gliders lack of aids particularly SSR.
These RPT's understand distance and direction/radial from their destinations
[only] so it would be useful to have a selectable information box that shows
distance in nautical miles and bearing/radial from RPT destination. In my
case that is Cooma NSW but it could be Canberra, Temora, Wagga, Dubbo etc.

So my suggestion is for an information box that readily shows distance in
nautical miles and radial from selectable airports in the XCSoar data base
so glider pilots can readily give accurate position information to powered
aircraft.

Subject: Re: [Xcsoar-user] [Xcsoar-devel] ideas for improvements

Not sure of the intent of this subject, but

I have spent too much radio time listening to pilots on long tasks trying to
pass on their location. Particularly Corowa visitors probably 300 km NW of
Corowa. Radio chatter takes many minutes in several languages.

My suggestion is for an XCSoar data box giving bearing and distance from a
selectable waypoint [that is not necessarily the task's next turnpoint.
viz., Condo 240/36km [from Condoblin]. Then they could agree the reference
from time to time and then radio their position in the above simple terms
from that point.

This function looks similar to 'alternate 1' but I have not figured out the
specifics yet. Or it may be in Team modes?

If there is this functionality in XCSoar somewhere, my apologies but I have
not found it.

Keep up the good work.
