For the Nano 3 you will need 6.8_preview4 or later. We currently have no beta versions of 6.8 so if you indeed tried a beta version you probably tried a beta version of 6.7. I have a Nano 3 sitting on my desk and just tried a declaration with the current 6.8 development version and it worked.
