When I mentioned autostart at mounting of media, I was referring to the execution of a [.autorun|autorun|autorun.sh] executable located on the media.

See also http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105604

The gnome-volume-manager does of course much more than that, but I don't think that's to be included in an autostart spec for now.

Do you really want to support autorun feature? It is such a security nightmare. Though it may seems nice, but the script could make to do anything, including wiping out your harddisk, install a trojan horse even before you realise it.

CDE on Solarirs used to support it and we had to take it out for this simple reason.

I also don't like the idea of having things being run without my intervention (or at least my acceptance). That was why I left windows behind (don't use it at all) and came to linux.

But as someone said in the kde bugzilla, it could be nice for it to ASK if you want to run it. Of course that would mean the dm's implementation would dictate the security level of it..

So, if we go for it, we should also spec the local configuration (on the ~/.config dir maybe), so that hopefully no one gets "tricked" by the dm's default behaviour. Also, it should be off by default, and the dm shouldn't touch it without user intervention.
