Hi, i'm one of the developers of okular[1] a universal document viewer for
KDE4. okular is plugin based, that means depending of the installed plugins
you may or may not be able of reading PDF files. So hardcoding pdf, ps, dvi,
djvu, odt, xps, etc support on the .desktop file will not be a good idea
because maybe not all the plugins are installed.

The problem is that the mimetypes an application can read have to be specified
in the .desktop file and you can only install one .desktop file per
application.

The only solution i can see would be that each plugin installs
an "application .desktop" file with all the keys exactly as the others and
only the mimetype changed and the corresponding Destkop applications
(konqueror, kmenu, nautilus, gnome-menu, etc) merged the .desktop files.

Do you think that is a good idea that shoudl be added to the spec as an
implementation note? If not any suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Albert
