Psht. ;-) Then it doesn't work. Remove gnome-screensaver and the screensaver won't work in GNOME. Remove HAL and nothing will work. I think it's safe to assume that if KDE software is relying on very new DBUS methods, then something will provide the service - else software can either fallback to the old way of doing things (ick) or just show all the options.
