The systray spec is utter and total crap, and Ion also will not support it. It's over-engineered shit, and the required XEmbed in particular is over-specific NIH shit, designed by illiterates who never even bothered browsing the X documentation, and certainly stopped before thinks like XGrabKey, WM_TAKE_FOCUS, the ICCCM, etc. But that's all typical FDO... typical modern FOSS partices. Even Xrandr was turned into Xinerama 2.0, and Xinerama is the definition of brain damage.
