Hello,
I am looking for someone who can answer some simple questions in regards to the menu spec http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/ . If you know any better place to ask these questions please drop me a short pointer.
1. Question Attached are some files, among that an applications.menu file. Is that file according to the above spec?
2. Question I would expect to have a menu like this:
submenu1 element1 kfind systemsettings
and submenu1 contains only element2
Is there any reason why a compliant system would show a different menu? KDE doesn't show submenu1 at all but only element1, kfind and systemsettings... Bug in KDE or bug in my applications.menu file?
3. Question Is there any fundamental difference in the file structure for an applications.menu file and a file which I merge in applications.menu via <MergeFile>? Or asked the other way round, could I use the .menu file which I try to merge into the applications.menu file directly as applications.menu file? (would it be valid as such a file? Of course the purpose of merging is different).
4. Question Are the elements <DefaultAppDirs/> and <DefaultDirectoryDirs/> optional? I would assume that a compliant implementation looks up the default directories in any case. Doesn't it?
Background of my questions is that I have lots of trouble creating and changing menus in KDE with the existing tools. Before I can contribute to make this situation better I need a confirmed starting point, e.g. starting with a non-valid applications.menu file wouldn't be good....
Thanks for your help!
Regards, K.
