I am like situated and now learning the basics of network backup and mirroring. This book helped me sort the issues and identify Linux tools. It discusses all three major platforms. Backup & Recovery, Inexpensive Backup Solutions for Open Systems, By W. Curtis Preston. An earlier version speaking only to Linux (not reviewed) is available for a nominal sum through used book outlets. Also, both should be available through any decent public library consortium.
