That's what Contractor does in elementary: it provides additional actions for mimetypes, e.g. uploading photos to Flickr or rendering SVGs with Inkscape. However, Contractor implemented this vi separate .desktop-like file for every action. There's no such thing as "default" Contractor action, though; the user is always presented a list of actions to perform.
