One other extra piece of information:

I found that, in my @ejb-bean line, simply changing "view-type" from 
"local" to "remote" is the difference between whether jboss 
verifies/deploys my package, vs. gives the exception log I included in 
my prior message.

This is regardless of the fact that all my business methods continue to 
have "view-type local" (which get ignored when my bean's view-type is 
remote).
