About WHEN: I put in N/A on those who voted -1, but then I thought you might
have an opinion about this after all. I hope a potential shift to Jakarta
doesn't mean somebody wants to leave the boat (although Jakarta has
different rules for who can be committers. It's very activity related).

Personally I think the template engine/tag handler code is the worst in
XDoclet. It's very spaghetti (lots of static methods - yuk). If (and I
emphasise IF) we agree on refactoring XDoclet to use Velocity, I think we
should do it ASAP. My understanding is that the Velocity refactoring is
scheduled for 1.3.

So the reason why I think we should move to J after 1.3 is because we're
likely to attract some developers from the Velocity community. -And that
would be helpful for the refactoring.

I know that moving is also a big job to do. But nothing prevents us from
starting the Velocity refactoring on a new CVS branch on SF after 1.2 in
parallel as the moving to J takes place.

This being said, we should focus on delivering design docs for the Velocity
refactoring. It makes it easier for everybody to understand and have an
opinion about how/whether this should be done. The documentation system is
up to speed now, so we're ready to move the docs. I hope as many as possible
can be helpful with this.

As Ara said in a recent mail, there is still a lot of bugs to fix (as before
the module refactoring).
