The best one can get out of XDoclet under Maven currently is with the '-X' switch to
Maven. The log4j properties are not set with very high output though, and I've had a
lot of problems like you describe. Unfortunately, this is a Maven problem, not an
XDoclet problem.

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XDT-410
Summary: in the case of missing libraries, the xdoclet tasks under maven plugin
silently fail, instead of reporting an error
       Type: Bug

     Status: Resolved
   Priority: Major
 Resolution: WON'T FIX

 Original Estimate: 0 minutes
 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: 0 minutes

    Project: XDoclet
 Components:
             Maven Plugin
   Versions:
             1.2 Beta 3

Assignee: xdoclet-devel (Use for new issues)

Environment: winXP, jdk1.4

Description:
Under maven, if the task I' trying to run has a dependency on some other module, then
I do not get any errors back, the whole task is simply not run...
However, under Ant, I get a nice error, like this:
BUILD FAILED
file:C:/cygwin/home/neeme/prj/bmi/build.xml:46: Couldn't find the class
xdoclet.modules.web.WebDocletTask on the classpath: ...

Is this a bug in Xdoclet or in Maven?
