Hi Michael,

IMHO, WebSphere requires a jndi name for each ejb reference.

Therefore, if no jndi-name is given to ejb-external-ref, WebSphere should ask
for a jndi-name when deploying a xdoclet-generated ejb.

The deployment should fail if you don't deploy in an interactive way (not using
the admin console).

Do you have a WebSphere installation on which you can verify this?

You are right that the jndi-name parameter for ejb.ejb-external-ref is not
documented. IMHO, this is a bug (XDT-1259) because it is already used by
multiple modules.

Regards,
Matthias

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XDT-1250
Summary: webSphere ejb: ejb.ejb-external-ref does not work
       Type: Bug

     Status: Open
   Priority: Major

 Original Estimate: Unknown
 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: Unknown

    Project: XDoclet
 Components:
             IBM Module

Assignee: xdoclet-devel (Use for new issues)
   Reporter: Michael Kopp

    Created: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 8:59 AM
    Updated: Wed, 2 Feb 2005 10:47 AM

Description:
It still requires the ejb-name to be specified although it is deprecated. And
if specified it searches for it an complains that it cannot find it. How should
it, it is an external EJB.
