Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XDT-814
Summary: Abstract EJB is added to the ejb-jar.xml DD even it cannot be
instantiated
       Type: Bug

     Status: Open
   Priority: Major

 Original Estimate: Unknown
 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: Unknown

    Project: XDoclet
 Components:
             EJB Module
   Versions:
             1.2
             1.2.1

Environment: Windows 2000, JDK 1.4.2

Description:
When an abstract EJB (public abstract class ...) is extended by another,
concrete EJB class then either the Abstract EJB is added to the ejb-jar.xml DD
('@ejb.name' set) or the Home Interface of the abstract EJB does not contain
the 'create()' method.
Unfortunately even the use of 'generate="false"' or
'acceptAbstractClasses="false"' can make it work. In my opinion an abstract EJB
class MUST NOT be added to the ejb-jar.xml in any case because it cannot be
instantiated BUT it should be possible to create a concrete class out of the
abstract EJB.

-Andy

BTW this fix is related to the open issue with the wrong EJB name used in the
transaction attributes in ejb-jar.xml.
