Okay, I'll answer my own question.
For the @ejb:select tag, you must declare an abstract select method in
your Bean class so that the Bean class's methods can use that select
method. Just be sure to add that it throws FinderException or mvcsoft
complains:
public abstract Collection ejbSelectGroupNames(Long id)
throws FinderException;
