No, unfortunately we have a *very* restrictive firewall with cvs blocked though HTML is allowed, but Aslak pointed me towards CVSGrab - "... a CVS client that reads the files from the ViewCVS web interface to the repository".
cvsgrab -rootUrl http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xdoclet/ -destdir /opt/xdoclet -package xdoclet -verbose true caught exception parsing java.net.UnknownHostException cvs.sourceforge.net ..so I have to conclude that even this kind of access is somehow blocked by the firewall - I have no plan C other than to wait for the 1.2 release..sigh..
