I like xdoclet but it often gets me when I untar a new release and its got the contents of the app rather than a top-level directory with a name like 'xdoclet-vvv'.
tar -xzvf xdoclet-bin.tar.gz will extract the three directories rather than a single xdoclet-vvv/ directory. Just my two cents. Its an excellent product btw.
