You can not do it from within EJB getters, because Xdoclet will only generate validation stuff from a form based object.
So what Matt was, probably, refereing to is if you generate your forms from within EJBs, then validator tags are not propagating to the form generated sources. For that to happen you need the templates that he has on his web site and use those instead (or in addition I can't quite remember now) of Xdoclet; With his templates validation tags are pushed thru to the form sosurces without change, then you can use the gernated form sources to generate validation xml.
