OK I found it now. The '{0}' ref in the docs means the bean BeanBBean name and the file needs to be in the same package directory structure under the merge directory.

The Bean I want to connect from is 'BeanA' and the bean deployed in the server is 'BeanB'. I create a new file 'ejb-ejbrefs-BeanA.xml' with the <ejb-local-ref> tags, in the merge directory and run xdoclet. However no entry is created in the ejb-jar.xml file. Please can someone explain what I am doing wrong here and confirm that the '{0}' in the documentation refers to the beans name.
