The java file might be as much, if not more, use to us as the build.xml in reproducing the problem... Since the error message is complaining of the "packageOf" method, would I be right in guessing that your class was in the default package i.e. no package statement? I haven't checked, but I suspect that could potentially cause a NullPointerException in the tag handler when trying to read the package name.
