As Konstantin points out, there are many features, but to the advanced user the most important are the use of Velocity for generating output from templates. Jelly is available for XML and FreeMarker is also available, but in direct comparison to X1 (which has no Jelly), the use of Velocity is the most notable difference. The use of Picocontainer doesn't do much for anyone that's not a big fan of it, but it doesn't hold back the casual user at all.

Creating a new plugin for X2 is so easy, anyone can do it. If you look at the production catridges, they use an innovative but very complex approach to generating them (QTags), but that's not at all necessary if you are not comfortable with it. If you are interested in some examples of working without QTags, I'm happy to get you started. I've found many people start out with X2, look at the current cartridges, presume that X2 is hopelessly complex (just in a different way), and go back to X1. That's too bad.

I got carried away for a while, what's this XDoclet2 thing? And why is it
that seperated? Is it the next generation of Xdoclet or is it somewhat
different?

Thanks for enlighten me,
Karsten

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if not sorry. I'm trying to use xdoclet2 but when I try to run it my ant script fails.

XDoclet-2 has own mailing lists ( as well as plugins ) - see http://xdoclet.codehaus.org/

As for your question, please upgrade plugins to current SNAPSHOT version (
if you were using maven, this owuld happen automatically... )
