I remember that there was talk about new xjavadoc
version which is able to process  java 1.5+  - you may
try it out. 

BTW; why it is impossible to you to move to XD2? 
as there is fresh qdox version which is said to
be able to process 1.5 sources ( m2 plugin update will
follow soon, but you can already bump up this
dependency ) there shall be no problem with it.
