We use barrier=0 for Ubuntu 12.04 for the last few weeks and haven't seen an
issue with it. Other than the ability to reboot and have the system come up
reliably.
Yes, but obviously the issue should be fixed in XCP dom0 kernel instead, so you
don't need any workaround in the VMs.

Debian Wheezy PV guest (linux kernel 3.2) currently has some issues with
barrier where the guest boots with read only disk.
There has been some hint to disable barrier (adding barrier=0 in fstab), and it
