I'm not sure if it's the use of the AMD cpu that could explain the
bad performance for the /lib/svc/method/ppd-cache-update
script or the /boot/solaris/bin/create_ramdisk script that I've
observed.

So far there are way too many apples and oranges with the
comparisons I've done:

-  xen 3.1.x / amd64 X2 / opensuse 10.3 dom0 / usb 2.0 hdd / ext filesystem
   (slow)
vs.
- xvm 3.0.4 / amd64 X2 / opensolaris dom0 / 2x nv_sata HDD / striped compressed 
zpool
   (fast)
vs.
- xvm 3.0.4 / Pentium M / opensolaris dom0 / notebook ata hdd / gzip compressed 
zpool
   (fast)
