Have you tried multiple times to boot this kernel? On a debian squeeze box i had the problem with 2.6.32.11 and 2.5.3 that the kernel wanted to start only once of 3-5 tries. Screen stayed just blank (without quiet) just after booting. Looked like a early timing problem. I have upgraded this box to 2.6.32.15 and 2.5.4 and the problem seems gone.
