I submitted several months ago a small series of patches
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=xerces-c-dev&m=97996829301593&w=2)
, that would have provided a clean way to deallocate the memory that would
not have been affected by differing RTL's and would allow you to
do transcoding to the stack if you so desired without adversely affecting
any existing code.
It was never rejected, however, the powers that be thought that the
mixing run-time libraries was such a bad thing that we shouldn't
provide any support for doing it safely.
I would suggest that anyone that this bothers, to apply the patches I
suggested in their own custom Xerces build and try it out.
If a committer's vetos it, at least you can do your own variant.
This topic has been repeatedly talked to death and I think that
I've already provided a reasonable solution.
