Yes, the place to complain is java.sun.com, in the bug reports
area. You can list this as a bug, but it's already been denied
and closed twice. You can request it as an enhancement, which
probably has a better chance of being heard if enough people
request it.
They do keep tabs, and list the 'most requested' items on the
public pages. I think there are also feedback links to email
addresses. That is also appropriate.
I contacted my local Sun rep, who put me in touch with the area's
Business Development Manager. We gave him our objections to this
policy, and are hoping to see some results from this. But so far,
nothing has happened.
Javasoft (Sun) says that if it's not in the spec, they do not have
to make it work. And getting the spec changed is not a trivial
task. That seems to be the underlying problem with getting this
fixed.
