Chances are you will be fine, especially as the samples seem
ok.

Previously, Xerces-C also used xlc_r and xlC_r to do their
production builds, and they worked fine. I think an effort
has been made to avoid using constructs that are compiler-
version-specific. For example, that's the reason why
namespaces are not used - some compilers don't yet support
namespaces in a portable way.

I haven't built 1.6 with xlc, so I can't say for sure, but
I'd really lean toward saying you should be fine. Perhaps
one of the developers will pipe up with a definitive answer.
In the mean time, have at it.
