It's more an aesthetic thing, consistency in the character escaping, rather 
than anything else since the parser does handle a ">" in the input text of an 
attribute.  It just seems odd that you can have the ">" in an attribute value, 
but not "<" or "&",  which have to be escaped.  I can accept that there is this 
exception to the rules of character escaping, but it is a bit disconcerting 
when you see the output with a ">" and don't remember about this exception.
