Not quite!  You still need to type:

"make install"

to install the library into your systems lib dir.

Do you need to fiddle with your libary path?  What file do you edit (and to
contain what exactly?) to do that?  Do you need to fiddle with ldconfig to have
things picked up right away, or do you need to reboot?  Does the XERCESCROOT
variable always have to be set inorder to /use/ the library? Can I delete the
distribution dir after I have installed?
