Yes the doctype must be specified in the XML file to be able to be loaded by
a validating parser. It is XML standard.

When parsing multiple xml scripts all conforming to the
same dtd, is it necessary for the script to specify the DOCTYPE
node (with the dtd that the script conforms to) in each script even if
the parser has been configured to preload and cache the grammar?

Any suggestion would be most welcome.
