We are using Xerces-C as part of a large code. Linking with shared objects
adds to the workload of users who must have yet another environment
variable set to run the code, so it can find the shared object file. We
looked at the procedure for building the library and did not see any
obvious way to create a static library. Is there a way to do that? If so,
how? If not, why?
