Can you provide a simple sample that illustrates this problem? The line you reference 
is just doing 
some memory allocation through the allocate call, so I wonder if there's something 
else going on there.

A couple of other questions:

  - What is count newCnt at point of the crash, and can you trace it down into the 
allocate routine?
  - Is the memory "manager" valid at the point of failure?
