There is an open source alternative at http://scarab.tigris.org which relies heavily on Apache software (Turbine, Velocity, Lucene, ...). The impression it gave to me is quite good but there are some things unresolved why it has not left beta status for ages (no offence: whoever does not like it shall ask for his money back!).
It surely could use some attention.
