Following the Mac OS X commandline option off the xerces site:
Download 2.1.0
Unpack
Set XERCESCROOT
runConfigure -p macosx -n native
make
make fails with:

confused by earlier errors, bailing out
make[1]: *** [Base64.o] Error 1
make: *** [Util] Error 2
