As Mike mentioned,  neither the PMC nor the committers has the authority to
assign
work to project members.   The committers are responsible for ensuring that
changes
are okay before they get committed to CVS.

We're eager to have people help out.   I'll repost the STATUS file for the
Java project (Andy can do the same for C++) to give you an idea of things
that we know we need to do.  If you want to add more to that feel free.
The STATUS file in CVS is supposed to represent the canonical task list.
Part of the reason it's ambiguous how the process works is that the process
can
work in many ways.

Let us know how you want to help or what feature you want to add and we
can go from there.
