Error message are garbaged up on 98

I have an MFC app that parse files, prints the errors in a list, when the user clicks on the error it scrolls to the location in the XML and the user can edit.  The problem is the latest Xerces the error messages returned when running under Windows 98 are garbaged up.  The same application running under NT works fine.   Tim
