I haven't looked at the code under /xml-xerces/java/src/whiteboard/org/apache/tree but I am told it is derived from /xml-contrib/crimson/* which I am familiar with. The crimson code does implement the DOM2 interfaces (not fully conformant though). Rajiv would be the person to ask as to what is under the whiteboard directory.
