Subscribe to the xerces-j-dev mailing list. Instructions are
available at the following URL:

  http://xml.apache.org/mail.html

I would also suggest subscribing to the xerces-j-user mailing
list so that you can help with some of the problems that users
are facing. This gives you a great opportunity to learn what
things users have trouble with and what features they would
like to see added to the parser.

Regarding the Xerces-J parser, there are two versions: the
1.x line and the 2.x line. Xerces 1.x is pretty much at the
end of its life and will probably only have bug fix releases
from this point on. The main development is occurring on the
Xerces2 codebase. So you should become familiar with the
design of Xerces2 and also start looking at the implementa-
tion as well.

There is already a fair amount of design information in the
Xerces2 documentation. You'll find it on the navbar listed
as the "XNI Manual". Just post to the mailing list if you
have any questions or if you want to volunteer to help with
anything.
