Hi Elena, I strongly vote for applying the supplied patch to Xerces before release of 1.4.4, because many implementations of XML Signature (including companies and institutions like IBM, Baltimore, IAIK, and others) and also XML Apache projects (the upcoming Apache XML Security package) rely on it.
