The DocumentTracer I'm using -- see attachment -- is slightly altered from the version Xerces ships, to use a parser initialization sequence that more closely tracks the way Xalan is invoking the parser. See the section enabled when AS_SHIPPED_WITH_XERCES is set false. That version _does_ fail with current CVS Xerces. I don't see any reason it should.
