I tried on solaris w/ jdk 1.3.1 and windows w/ jdk 1.2.2 but xerces never hangs. Can you please verify it again. The other thing you reported about -np option is actually true. Though the help shows that you can use -np/NP option, but, in fact it never tries to set this feature on DOMParser as this is not a DOM recognized feature. Thanks for pointing that out.
