I included both new jars, and in case one of them would be missing, the exception would have been a "ClassNotFoundException". A NuSuchMethodError is thrown if for some reason the signatures in the calling and the called classes don't match. For me the solution was to deactivate MutationEvents and try other versions of Xerces and finally found one I can live with.
